Rocky Dennis is a teen living with an extremely rare condition that causes severe skull deformity. Underneath his grossly distorted features is a young man with intelligence, warmth and a great sense of humor. Each day is a struggle to be accepted as normal while dealing with the painful effects of his condition. Rocky lives with his free spirited mother, Rusty, who serves as Rocky's main protector and champion. Rocky is loved by an extended family consisting of his maternal grandparents and Rusty's motorcycle riding friends. Rusty successfully fights the local school system to get Rocky mainstreamed into a normal junior high instead of a special education school. Rocky triumphs in school and at a summer job. His life is short, but meaningful and inspiring. |
