Overview
Mary Horowitz has little else in her life but the crossword puzzles she writes for the San Francisco Herald. The teasing she receives at a kids' career day leads her to accept a blind date with Steve, a news channel cameraman. Although Steve is put off by Mary's excessive chatter and strange behavior, she is completely smitten. Determined to prove that he is her true love, Mary writes an inappropriate crossword that costs her her job. With nothing else to do, Mary decides to take Steve up on what she believes was an offer to follow him and his news crew as they travel through the Southwest. Steve, of course, wants nothing to do with her, but his crew continues to egg Mary on until she falls into a mine shaft and she becomes part of Steve's story.
