Overview
Will Stoneman may only be a teenager, but he has had to take on the role of head of the family due to his father’s untimely death. It is a struggle to help his mother maintain their land in Canada, but they two usually manage to scrape by. When the expenses continue to rise, he decides he will take his father’s sled dogs and enter a cross country sled race. He is discouraged from everyone participating, and because he is younger and inexperience, he often finds he must work longer hours and survive of smaller amount of food and sleep to be competitive.
