Agnes, a novice at a Roman Catholic convent, is found bleeding with a murdered baby in her trash can. A psychiatrist, Dr. Martha Livingston, is called in to investigate the case. However, Mother Miriam tries to convince Dr. Livingston that Agnes is innocent and unaware of how a child is conceived. As Dr. Livingston investigates, she learns Agnes was molested by her own mother. Additionally, she learns that Agnes is the niece of Mother Miriam. Much to Mother Miriam’s dismay, Dr. Livingston hypnotizes Agnes on two separate occasions. Agnes reveals that another woman in the convent was aware that she was pregnant. Additionally, Agnes indicates that she was raped and Mother Miriam killed her baby. The court finds Agnes not guilty due to insanity. |
