Sam Dawson is the father and sole custodian of a precocious 7-year-old girl named Lucy Diamond after his favorite song. Sam is obsessed with the Beatles, one of his many quirks. Unfortunately, because he is mentally challenged and sometimes reacts in alarming ways to frightening situations, child services believe that he may be unfit to be a parent. Desperate to get his daughter back, he hires a hard-hearted lawyer named Rita, who has a lot to learn from this devoted father. Meanwhile, his support network of close friends, each of whom also has mental challenges, is instrumental in offering Sam the emotional support he needs during this difficult time, while Lucy repeatedly escapes her kind but condescending foster mother to return to her beloved dad. |
