Overview
In the late 1950s in Brighton, Britain, Tom Burgess, a homosexual police constable who hides his sexuality for obvious reasons, has developed friendships with a heterosexual school teacher named Marion Taylor and a gay museum curator named Patrick Hazlewood. Tom loves both Marion and Tom in his way. He eventually marries Marion to maintain appearances, but he also has an affair with Tom. As with all secrets, the truth eventually comes out. Tom must deal with the consequences of living a lifetime of lying not only to his colleagues, the public and others but also to the people he loves.
