Overview
In Lithuania in 1941, a sixteen-year-old girl named Lina, who hopes to be an artist one day, watches as her dreams shatter after the Soviet secret police deport all of her family to Siberia. Lina, her mother and brother are accused of committing treason and receive a life sentence of hard labor. Her father is placed in a prison camp. Lina decides while at the labor camp to begin documenting via artwork the horrible work and living conditions and the experiences of the laborers. She also hopes that her pictures will eventually reach her father to give him the hope that comes from knowing that his family still lives. When Lina's efforts don't go unnoticed by the camp's leaders, she must try to save her artwork and herself before her dreams turn into ashes.
