Overview
Cocky, arrogant Landon Carter's involvement in a high school prank gone wrong lands him the requirement of participating in after-school community service activities in Beaufort, North Carolina. Part of his required service is taking the lead role in the school play, a position he begrudgingly accepts. Starring opposite him in the school play is Jamie Sullivan, the kind-hearted but shy minister's daughter, who tells Landon not to fall in love with her. At first, this is not difficult in the slightest, but Landon's affections change. He comes to love Jamie and learns that she has a brain tumor that is killing her. He beseeches her father to let them marry, which he reluctantly allows, knowing this will be the last bit of kindness his daughter will ever experience.
