Overview
In this horror-thriller, based on a novel by Peter Ackroyd, a series of murders take place in Victorian London, and people suspect that a mythical monster known as the Golem is responsible. The police, however, arrest a music-hall star named Elizabeth Cree for the killings, which include the poisoning of her husband. The protagonist, Inspector John Kildare, attempts to prove her innocence, and soon settles on four suspects: the dead husband himself, and three historical figures (Dan Leno, Karl Marx, George Gissing) who happen to be in London at the time. Somewhat of a throwback to classic Hammer Horror films.
