Overview
A highly decorated detective, LAPD Russell Poole, suffers disgrace after he attempts to discover who murdered famous rappers Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls, The Notorious B.I.G. In 1997, Poole and his partner, Fred Miller, had been tapped to investigate a Studio City killing involving one police offer, an undercover cop, killing another cop, Officer Kevin Gaines, in what at first appeared to be a road rage incident. During that investigation, he discovered that the killed officer and many other LAPD officers had ties to Marion Hugh "Suge" Knight, the owner of Death Row Records. He also discovered connections between LAPD police, the Blood street gang and the deaths of Shakur and Smalls. Through interviews with Poole, journalist Randall Sullivan followed the detective's steps as he unearthed the many hidden truths in the LAPD that eventually resulted in forced retirement.
