After losing his job as a government advisor, Martin, a tired and weary journalist, begins searching for new work. Meanwhile Philomena tells her daughter a story about the son that she was forced to give up for adoption 50 years previously at a convent. While at a party, the daughter relates the story to Martin who, although he hates human interest pieces, accepts the job of helping to find the woman's son. As he researches what happened to Philomena's son, he is tracked across Scotland, Ireland and the United States. All the while, Philomena keeps a bright attitude that helps to restore Martin's faith in humanity. Although, they had many set backs, and later found Philomena's son buried in the convent where he was born, Philomena's attitude and forgiveness to the nuns who shunned her and lied to her about her son helped heal Martin. |
