Mei Mei is an orphan in China who has been receiving generous donations from a family man in Australia named Dean Randall. They correspond regularly by postcard. When Mei Mei travels to the Land Down Under to participate in a choir festival, she eagerly looks forward to meeting Randall in person. But the truth isn't pretty. Instead of having a lovely family and a home, it turns out that Randall is an incarcerated man who was convicted of manslaughter. Mei Mei decides to stay in Australia so that she and Randall can be together once he is paroled, but that decision has tragic consequences for both student and benefactor. |
