Overview
Celebrated officer Benedick has spent his adult years declaring his lack of interest in marriage and his contempt for women in general. He particularly delights in baiting Beatrice, the feisty niece of the governor whose home he is visiting after a successful campaign. Beatrice is equally acerbic when it comes to the prospect of marriage, so friends and relatives of the two decide it would be fun to trick them into falling for each other. Meanwhile, Benedick's young friend Claudio falls in love with Beatrice's cousin Hero, but the governor's disgraced brother and his henchmen unleash a plot to break up the young lovers and wreak havoc on their happiness. A comical constable inadvertently assists in clearing young Hero's name and reuniting the happy couple.
