The live-action version of "101 Dalmatians" puts a fun new spin on the Disney animated classic. In this edition, the dogs do not talk, but they are still loaded with personality, particularly Pongo, whose human is affable video game designer Roger (Jeff Daniels). Pongo helps unite Roger with the lovely Anita (Joely Richardson) while uniting himself with Perdita, who soon bears him 15 pups, which are stolen by the henchmen of fur coat-loving fashion maven Cruella De Vil (Glenn Close). The movie is heavy on the slapstick, particularly when it comes to blundering dognappers Jasper (Hugh Laurie) and Horace (Mark Williams). It stays very faithful to the basic plot of the original movie while updating it for a modern audience in a very endearing way. |
