Overview
With the rise of talking films came the falling of many silent film stars. While still at the zenith of his fame, George Valentin helps a struggling extra named Peppy Miller. Peppy has talent and eventually makes it big in the movies, especially as talking films become the rage in the late 1920s. But while Peppy’s star is on the rise, George’s is falling. The stock market crash ruins his fortune, and his wife throws him out. In despair, he burns up all his old films and almost loses his life, only to be saved by Peppy and his faithful chauffeur. Reversing the kindness that he showed her when she was starting out, Peppy gets George a role in one of her films.
