When John Thomas Scopes was put on trial in a court in Tennessee in 1925 for daring to teach his students about evolution, the United States experienced a landmark trial between two titans of its legal world. This is the fictional account of a reporter, Charles B. Anderson, who witnessed and reported on the case as it unfolded under the tutelage of the famous journalist H.L. Mencken. Faced with the choice to follow his wife's or Mencken's wishes, Anderson struggles with what he considers a moral conflict in his reporting methods.
