Professor Henry Higgins is an expert in phonetics who is so confident in his abilities that he makes a wager with his colleague, Colonel Pickering, that he can take any common-talking woman and teach her to speak like a refined, sophisticated lady. The find he perfect test subject in Eliza Doolittle, a poor flower girl with an abrasive cockney accent. Although reluctant at first, Doolittle accepts Higgins' offer and is subjected to his radical techniques to not only transform her speech, but her entire lifestyle as well. It's a challenging task, but Higgins seems to succeed. However, when Eliza feels he doesn't give her enough credit for her efforts, she leaves Higgins. Only then does Higgins realize that he has deeper feelings for her.
