During the 1990s in Algeria, a group of French monks live and work in a monastery and coexist peacefully with local Islamists. However, when a radical Islamic terrorist group threatens the existence of the monks, they have to decide whether to remain true to their mission or to flee the country. The corrupt local government offers protection for the monks, but they refuse. The monks argue among themselves about the importance of their work and should they risk their lives by staying. Before reaching a decision, terrorists raid the monastery at night and take most of the monks hostage. The fate of the captured monks is unknown as they are led away in the heavy snow into the mountains. |
