Lewis and Elizabeth Fielding seem to have an ideal marriage, but they are somehow each afflicted with crushing boredom despite their busy social life and successful professional and family lives. Elizabeth takes an opportunity to go to Baden-Baden in Germany by herself, and Lewis' imagination runs wild with thoughts of her potential acts of indiscretion. As expected, she finds an outlet for infidelity with a dabbler in drug smuggling and poetry named Thomas, resulting in a steamy encounter in an elevator . Upon returning home, Elizabeth begins to attempt to root out evidence that Lewis is having a fling with the au pair. However, Thomas has come to England to pursue Elizabeth further, and the conflict will push the Fieldings to their limits with each other. |
