Tom And Gerri Hepple have enjoyed a long, comfortable marriage. The two have a son, Joe, and enjoy successful careers. The Hepples get a chance to see how strong their relationship is as they experience the unhappiness of a small group of friends. In the spring they try to comfort Gerri's friend Mary, who uses alcohol to hide her loneliness following a divorce. Tom's friend Ken visits over the summer. Ken is also alone, and has let himself go physically and emotionally. Later in the year they try to comfort Tom's brother Ronnie, who has just lost his wife, and deal with Ronnie's son, Carl. Through the year Tom and Gerri remain resolute as the lives of Mary, Joe, Ken and Ronnie intertwine. |
