In the years leading up to the Second World War, two stories are told through the lens of a cabaret called the Kit Cat Club. Sally Bowles is an entertainer looking to enjoy her life and make it onto the big screen. Brian Roberts is a young Brit looking for love in the arms of other men, much like a certain Christopher Isherwood. First as roommates, then as lovers, and finally separated by their irreconcilable frustrations, these two watch the rise of the Nazi party as it slowly chokes the life and verve out of a country famed for its liberal attitudes, with song and dance illustrating the voices of an entire nation howling against the incoming void and annihilation the Nazis will bring.
