Maria is a teenager in Colombia, working in a factory to help support her family. Her life takes a turn when she discovers she's pregnant and quits her job. Desperate for another job, she agrees to work as a drug mule, smuggling narcotics into America by swallowing 62 pellets of cocaine. When she arrives in New York, Customs is suspicious because she's carrying $800 in cash. She avoids the X-ray machine thanks to her pregnancy and makes it through with fellow drug mules Blanca and Lucy. The drug traffickers hold them captive in a motel room until they pass the drugs. Lucy dies when one of the cocaine pellets bursts. Maria and Blanca escape and later trade the drugs for the money they were promised. |
