In a spectacularly weird landscape of smoke, noise, and industrial oddness, Henry Spencer lives a strange and nightmarish existence. Henry has reached a dead-end at his factory job, and barely manages to keep his sanity in a dreary apartment, where the only amusement on hand is listening to the off-key warblings of a woman living in his radiator. His love life is no improvement; his girlfriend Mary has brought him to meet her mentally ill parents, who serve live chickens for dinner. After the couple is married, Mary gives birth to a mutant baby that appears to be some kind of deformed proto-human animal. When the baby appears to mock Henry, he attacks it, leading to a spectacularly gruesome sequence of modernistic cinematic horror.
