The married John Mayhew abruptly ends his affair with the young Charlotte Hollis. Charlotte's protective father forces him to end it. Charlotte is crushed when John tells her he no longer loves her. Later that evening, Charlotte discovers John has been gruesomely murdered in the summer house located on the family grounds. Everyone assumes she killed him. Decades later, Charlotte is a lonely spinster living in a the dilapidated mansion. The Highway Commission is evicting her so they can tear down the old place. Charlotte refuses to leave. Charlotte asks her cousin Miriam to come and help her. Charlotte's mental state quickly deteriorates after Miriam's arrival. Housekeeper, Velma, suspects Miriam and her doctor boyfriend are drugging her employer. When Velma ends up dead, Charlotte may be next. |
