Overview
When Augusto and Michaela’s son Lorenzo is diagnosed with a fatal neurological disorder, they are devastated. They are also determined to find some sort of medicine or treatment to try to halt the progression of their son’s adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD). The medical doctors and other professionals are skeptical and sometimes hostile to the parents’ efforts, since they are convinced there is no cure and the parents are deluding themselves. However, the parents press on and contact medical researchers, eventually discovering a combination of oils that will not repair all of their son’s neurological damage, but that will help slow the disease’s rapid progression. Their son eventually regains his sight and some other functions that the doctors believed he had lost permanently.
