Overview
After a horrible catastrophe, a large group of people move to an underground city named Ember. Living in Ember, Lina Mayfleet has never known a different life. Although she longs to be a messenger, she is assigned to work on the pipes that crisscross the subterranean city. She decides to switch jobs with her friend Doon, who received the job she wanted. As the two begin their new roles, they discover that Ember is crumbling and their only hope for salvation is being concealed by the corrupt city leaders.
