He sends his two sons, Jay and Arty, to live in Yonkers with their grandmother, simply called Grandma. The boys fear Grandma's stern manner and sharp tongue; they pity their autistic Aunt Bella, also living with Grandma. Their estranged older brother, Louie, also moves into Grandma's house. Aunt Bella enjoys a courtship with a coworker she longs to marry and open a restaurant with. Jay and Arty are determined to make money fast so they can help their father and reunite with him shortly.
