The story is based on the 1984 best selling novel by Milan Kundera. Tomas is a surgeon in Prague who has married the stunningly beautiful Teresa. But he continues to have a wandering eye and enjoys continuing an extramarital relationship with Sabrina. When the Russians invade Prague, Sabrina escapes to Geneva, where she beings a new romantic liaison with another man but also inadvertently makes the acquaintance of Tomas' wife and ultimately the two become friends. Tomas, meanwhile, begins to become a more political animal after the Dubcek regime collapses. |
