Overview
Hester Prynne is a young woman who has an affair with the local pastor. No one knows of the pastor's indiscretion, but when Hester becomes pregnant, she is branded an adulteress and forced to wear a red letter A on her so that everyone who sees her knows how wicked she is. She retreats from society and lives as a hermit. Hester's daughter grows into an exceptionally kind and intelligent young child, and the two of them have a fairly happy life together, but the townspeople cannot forget what Hester did, and they continue to punish her for it. How long must she suffer for an act that happened so long ago and sprang from love? Will she ever find forgiveness from her judgmental neighbors?
