Anne is a proper Englishwoman who has recently lost her husband. It's the 1860s, and she is a widowed schoolteacher and mother who decides to take on a mighty challenge: teaching the children of the King of Siam. The king is steeped in tradition but enchanted by modern ideas, and he wants to make sure that his children have exposure to all that the contemporary world has to offer. The king and Anna gradually develop a friendship as he confides in her and asks her advice on a variety of matters. Still, he has his pride, and her fierce spirit disturbs him at times. When her western ideas clash with his stodgy traditions on a very important matter, it could be enough to destroy him. |
