Overview
With few career options in post=Prohibition New York City, the young Billy Bathgate joins the Dutch Schultz gang and is introduced to the joys and hazards of big-city organized crime. His main qualification as gangland chief is a maniacal temper and penchant for pointless violence, yet Schultz still makes an excellent tutor. A serious drawback, however, is his penchant for seriously angering the city's other mobland chiefs, and Billy finds himself drawn into a deadly conspiracy that ends with Schultz' very sudden and bloody demise.
