Overview
Katie Morosky and Hubbell Gardiner are two very different people who try to make a romance work. They first meet in college: Katie is a political activist, Hubbell is a writer and natural athlete. The pair reunite after World War II, reignite their romance and get married. Hubbell, who has written a novel, wants to continue his career as a screenwriter. Katie reluctantly follows him to Hollywood, although she feels he is wasting his talent. Their relationship is further strained when Katie's political activism harms Hubbell's reputation as the McCarthy hearings on Un-American activities heat up. The differences between Katie and Hubbell eventually drive them apart, although it cannot extinguish their love for each other.
