Overview
Wladyslaw Szpilman is a well-known and respected pianist in Warsaw, Poland. During the years leading up to World War II, he is subjected to the laws imposed by the invading Nazis. His wealthy family is forced to relocate to the Warsaw Ghetto, and later, he is rescued from being shipped to a concentration camp although his family is lost to the Nazi hatred. Alone in the ruins of a once great city, Wladyslaw spends much of the time hiding, starving, and nearly succumbing to desperation and loneliness.
