Overview
The Deer Hunter is about the effects of war on the American working class set in a small town. The movie opens with Michael and his friend Nick, attending a friend's wedding. They decide to go on one last deer hunting trip before they leave for Vietnam. Michael teaches Nick how to kill a deer with one shot, and to appreciate the beauty of nature. The men are later captured by the Vietcong and forced to play Russian roulette. Mike and Nick escape using the game to their advantage. However, they are severely affected by the effects of the capture and the war. Mike returns home alone and finds comfort with Nick's ex-girlfriend Linda. Mike returns to the war to try to find his friends Stan and Nick.
