Overview
When Dr. Malcolm Sayer arrives at his new hospital, he’s disturbed by the catatonic patients. They were victims of an outbreak of encephalitis decades before. Moved by their plight, he works to discover if a new drug, called L-Dopa, can revive them from their catatonic state. To the surprise of many, the new medicine works, bringing life and hope to the patients. The first to be awakened, Leonard Lowe, takes to his renewed life with special zest. His hopes are thwarted when the medicine effects prove to be temporary. Slowly, one by one, the revived patients begin to struggle with the same issues. They return to their previous state, leaving Dr. Sayer to continue his research in hopes of finding a more permanent cure.
