Overview
Captain Kirk is no longer on the Enterprise, but is actually an admiral working at Starfleet's headquarters in San Francisco. With the Enterprise being renovated, its new captain, Decker, is patiently waiting to head out to space. A bizarre cloud entity is slowly moving toward Earth. Out of caution, Starfleet enlists Enterprise to check the entity's purpose and trajectory. Because the beloved starship is not completed, Kirk decides to captain the ship, undermining Decker's authority. With the two men battling for dominance, Enterprise heads for the cloud. With Spock in tow, Kirk and Decker find that the entity is a cloaking mechanism for an alien ship. The Enterprise's crew must find a way to defeat the alien ship and disintegrate the cloud to protect Earth.
