Overview
After the Los Angeles SWAT team thwarts his attempt to extort money from the city with an elevator bomb, disgruntled ex-cop Howard Payne seeks revenge. He bombs one city bus and hides an explosive on a second bus. The incendiary device arms once the bus reaches a speed of 50 miles per hour, and it will explode if the bus slows below that speed or police try to rescue its passengers. SWAT officer Jack Traven, who helped foil Payne’s initial extortion attempt, leaps onto the bus from a speeding car. While his fellow officers search the city for Payne, Jack tries to find and disarm the bomb before the bus crashes or runs out of fuel.
