When Mark Watson's wealthy father decides to stop the cash flow to his son, it poses a serious threat to Mark's well-being and future as a Harvard University attendee. Desperate to attend Harvard and keep the posh lifestyle to which he's accustomed, Mark seeks financial aid from the only institution that will grant it, one that caters exclusively to blacks. Thus, with a little skin cream and an adjustment in his attitude, Mark enters Harvard as a African-American freshman, which causes people to view him different and causes him to appreciate and understand the way social dynamics work. He meets up with Sarah, another African-American student who applied for the scholarship that Mark dubiously received. They strike a friendship that's not without hurdles, but eventually they stick it out together.
