Xavier, known to his friends as X, lives in Chicago with this father and sister following his mother's death. He and his friends spend their time at the local roller rink until it is closed, forcing them to go to Sweetwater, the uptown rink that caters to a ritzier crowd. The local skaters and the skate rental distributor make it clear that X and his group are not welcome. To prove they belong, X decides they should compete in a roller disco ball contest, where they will have to go against Sweetness and the Sweetwater Rollers, who are 5-year reigning champions. While training for the contest, X also comes to terms with his mother's death, works through his problems with his father and strengthens his bond with his childhood friends, Naomi. |
