Jim Hawkins is an upstanding lad who joins an old friend of his father's on a seafaring voyage as a cabin boy. On that trip, he encounters the rascally Long John Silver, a pirate who is charming and charismatic but also very dangerous. The two strike up a friendship before Jim realizes what Long John really is, and the pirate uses his pure-hearted attachment to manipulate him. Jim is enlisted to help Long John Silver recover gold on a mysterious island. Meanwhile, on the ship and off, Muppets fill the roles of established and new characters, giving the classic tale a wacky twist that invites much more humor, not to mention music. Still, the basic story of treasure hunting and tested friendship is the same. |
