A failed Dutch artist takes up the business of selling art during the tumultuous years of World War II. Hans van Meegeren is able to acquire masterpieces, especially those painted by 17th Century master Johannes Vermeer. He sells them at lavish prices to the Nazis. His primary client is one of Hitler's top men, Hermann Goring. After the war ends, van Meegeren finds himself in hot water for dealing in ill-gotten art and for collaborating with the monstrous Nazi regime. He is arrested and placed on trial but might van Meegeren be innocent after all?
