Matt Drayton considers himself a very progressive individual who respects the rights of everyone, but he is still shaken when his daughter bring home Dr. John Prentice and announces that they are engaged. John is genteel and accomplished, and a look at his resume and his manners reveal a man any father ought to be proud for his daughter to marry. However, John is black, and Matt just isn't sure he's ready to accept a biracial marriage so close to home. Matt's wife is more accepting, as is John's mother, but the fathers have a lot of unexplored prejudice that they need to overcome in order to accept their children's marriage. A dinner with both in-laws may be the best way to clear the air. |
