Overview
Director Petra Costa, the child of a political Brazilian family, tells the story of two presidencies that pull their nation out of a military authoritarian age and into democracy, only to see it fall again to modern authoritarianism. Blending the political and personal experiences from history and her own life, Petra Costa presents a cautionary tale about the strongest idealism of democracy and how quickly it fell victim to the far-right tendencies of their newly elected leadership.
