Overview
Based on the novel by Earl Hammer Jr., Spencer's Mountain and the 1963 film of the same name, The Waltons follows the trials and tribulations of a southern family living in Virginia through the Great Depression and World War II eras. Through the eyes of John Walton Jr. we observe the perils of war and the monetary struggle of the time, as he works to become a novelist and live to tell the tale. Recounting the lives of his six siblings, parents, and grandparents, John-Boy navigates through a world saturated with violence, inequality, and misfortune in a time when hope was at its most sparse.
