Trailer | Overview A screenwriter and director, Talal Derki, decided to return home to Syria to create a documentary that shows the nightmare of living in a Islamic Caliphate. His father had also once told him that his nightmares could never visit him again if he simply wrote them down.
Yet, once he returned to Syria, Talal found that some nightmares aren't that easy to dispel:
In the north, undercover as a journalist sympathetic to the jihadi cause, Talal asks a member of the Al-Nusra Front, a branch of al-Qaeda in Syria, named Abu Osama permission to document the man's family for two years. Focusing on eight children, Talal's camera soon shows the tragic fate of male children living in a patriarchal society focused entirely on Sharia Law and training to become a soldier in the Al-Nusra Front military. |
