Overview
Given control of the desert planet Arrakis, the sole source of the valuable spice melange, by Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV, Duke Leto Atreides moves his family to the inhospitable planet. Soon after, he is betrayed and murdered during a coup orchestrated by the Emperor and his collaborator, House Harkonnen. Paul, the Duke’s son and heir, escapes into the wastelands where he earns the trust and loyalty of the warlike Fremen, Arrakis’ native people. With their help, he disrupts spice production and brings the Empire to its knees, forcing Shaddam to deal with the rebellion personally. Heading a Fremen army, Paul defeats the imperial Sardaukar, unseats the Emperor and seizes the throne, avenging his father and freeing Arrakis and its people from Corrino rule.
