After years of watching the abuse suffered by Mexican farm workers at the hands of their California employers, Cesar Chavez begins his crusade to secure a living wage and better working conditions for the itinerant farmhands. Along the way to forming the United Farm Workers of America, he becomes a hero of the laborers and a beacon of hope for the oppressed. However, it comes at a steep price as he struggles to balance his fight on behalf of the voiceless laborers with his responsibilities as a husband and father. As his non-violent message gains traction, he finds himself facing retribution, often in the form of jail or physical abuse, at the hands of the landowners he is battling. His story becomes one of triumph in the face of almost impossible odds and inspires many to take up the cause of social justice for all.
