As Great Britain enters into a new cold war, the Ministry of Defense seeks to dominate the battlefield with humanoid robots that will outperform any human soldier. The Machine, the brainchild of two computer scientists, appears and acts as any person would on the surface, but underneath the facade of humanity lies a weapon with the strength and speed that dwarfs anything biology is capable of combined with a callousness and disregard for human life that makes it ideal to target its enemy. As the project nears its end, an awareness sparks within The Machine, causing it to lash out against those in the facility that helped to create it in order to preserve its own safety. Rather than end the project for all involved, scientist Vincent McCarthy decides to bond deeper with his creation, determining whether it has true consciousness and exploring what it means to find a mind inside of a dangerous weapon. |
