Copper takes place in an 1860s Five Points neighborhood set in New York City. The series focuses on the life of a young Irish cop who has to grapple with living in a dangerous neighborhood comprised of immigrants. At the same time, the rugged cop is also left with the task of interacting with the black community and uptown Manhattan social circle. Finally, Copper is faced with the difficulties that result from attempting to attain information regarding the death of his daughter and disappearance of his wife. The television series places primacy on several themes, some of which include culture shock, crime, racism, and the effects of the American Civil War.
