Overview
Hispanic teenagers Yolanda and Mari live in a depressed neighborhood in Los Angeles. Yolanda spends her time studying, as her parents dream of her being the first in the family to go to college. Meanwhile, her new neighbor Mari shoplifts, smokes pot and rebels against authority. Yolanda and Mari become friends, and Yolanda helps her new friend with her homework. As their relationship deepens, the girls discover that spending time together is a risk to their future.
